where are the best places that a non-art student could show thier work around this city?
preferably some place that has a low cover charge.
I'm an abstract expressionist painter and sculpter.... half of my work is socio-political.
i'm about 2 months new to this place and i really only have a list of galleries in the pearl district- which i have called a few places and they've been rude to me and very unhelpful.
one person reccomended- the attic? anyone know anything about this place?
are there any places around here that are tiny venues that have art galleries inside of them...... or just a cool venue?! i really miss the smell and was wondering if there is a place like that up here??
is there any place up here for experimental local bands? any non-profit venues/galleries?
x-posted in other places

Hi, my name is Caitland--I'm in a band called The histrionics. We're touring down from seattle this april, and we have a question. It isn't illigal to play bars in Oregon if you're not twenty-one, correct? It isn't up here.
thanks

| Spinnaker at Owen's, Saturday July 16th! |
[14 Jul 2005|02:42pm] |
Sea Chanties, Celtic Folk, Rock, Reggae and Blues . . .
Where can you hear all these diverse types of music together? One band in the Portland area -- SPINNAKER -- stirs together these diverse musical styles and cooks up a music often described as Deep Sea Celtic Blues. Throw in a couple of errant pirates and other colourful characters, on and off the stage, and you have the makings for a night of fun. No cover charge, but we will pass the hat around, and count on your generosity ... or else the PIRATES will pass the hat around. Savvy?
Spinnaker is playing Saturday, July 16, 8 p.m. to midnight. Owen's Place (yes, there really is an Owen!) 3975 Merchantile Drive Lake Oswego, Oregon 503 635-4849
Owen's has great food, beer and wine, and is a lovely venue with plenty of free parking. It isn't hard to find, just take I-5 and take the Hwy 217 exit (or take the Kruse Way exit), turn whichever way (depends on which way you are going on I-5) takes you to Lake Oswego (not Beaverton!), and you will be on Kruse Way. Follow Kruse Way till the end where it intersects with Boone's Ferry Road and turn right. Take the first right turn (a matter of yards!) and then the next right turn (again, just a short distance) and there you are, in the parking lot! As a special bonus for all who come to Owen's this week (July 16th, 8pm!) Owen is giving away (as a door prize) a white water rafting trip. So come on down to hear Spinnaker and take a chance to win a great adventure!! Write for more information. Or just show up.
For more information about the band, visit our site: http://www.spinnakerband.com

I noticed that you guys were missing a ton of local Oregon bands. Even though there's too many to count, how come bands like the Wobblies (one of the most recognized punk bands in Oregon), Alter Ego (awesome pop-punk), the Adequits (kick ass female lead), Double o Seven, Pocketface, Dot Dot Dot, Not Punk Enough, Sweater Club (adorable), and Amadan (freaking rad) get no mention?
